Nature of Things

The nature of things lies only in religion. Yet I cannot say that I am not an atheist or a non-believer. The questions that arise in context are: What is religion to me? Is there a purpose delivered in following a religious text? And last but not least, Is religion the only way?

Religion growing up was my folding my hands in front of the small idols that my mom had set up at home or going to the festivals in our neighborhood held on the occasion of a worship or a celebration of a Hindu God. However as I grew up, I began to see it in my own way; as a symbolic system or a method of idealogy that essentially pointed out to society what was right or wrong.

Now this again conflicted with my inner beliefs. As I could not look at anything outside of myself to indicate what was good or bad, right or wrong.

As Christians have the 10 commandments which relate to their understanding of God and right and wrong, other religions have their way of pointing out socially or morally true way of behaviour. Even Buddhists have a subtle moral conduct as taught in their monasteries which is passed on from family to family. Hindus don't have any such book as a part of the religion. Instead of wasting any time on moral etiquette, rather they point to living as the Gita says a 'life of dharma.' The Gita says largely, 'learn to follow your dharma', which probably largely explains why hindus get away with everything. :-):-):-)

Is this the correct way to look at things? Is religion an ideal or a moral given by your church or religious organization or asking one to ponder over their meaning in life? I have been wondering something like this. I still don't know the answer. Probably there isn't one. All religions continue to be as they are with followers on both sides of the spectrum. For me, I have now simply learnt to live with the 'nature of things.'

Whatever life brings in whatever form, I embrace it instead of envisioning it as what I'd like it to be. This comes of course with a sense of gratitude and appreciation for my friends, family, and all that is around me. So I have learnt to let it be and be with the Nature of Things as this article implies. Some say things should just be natural. And you should not worry about what lies in the future or the past. So I have learnt to let it be and just be 'natural."

I love your honestly Astha. I have often wondered myself what lifestyle (religion) would I be following if I was born in a jungle and raised by animals like Mougli :) Would I be a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Jew or Christian? I din't want to follow the religion I was born into just because everyone around me told me to do a set of things. When I questioned, I was labelled a rebel.I believed I must first of all experience first hand that there is a divine being. ANd if there is, then what does he want me do to and how do I find it out ? I have reached a conclusion that any religion that does not oppose the "Nature of Things…
